What is Lasik atlantic new jersey?
It is a fact of life that some people are blessed with perfect vision whilst others are not so fortunate. A sight defect is known as Ametropia and up until relatively recently people had to live with it, either correcting it by the use of spectacles or contact lenses. However in recent years new techniques have been developed in order to correct some forms of Ametropia surgically. The most widely used technique today is LASIK, which involves the use of a laser to correct the shape of the Ametropic eye.
The reason an eye is Ametropic is due to an irregularity in the ocular system somewhere from the corneal front surface of the eye to the retinal inner back surface. If the light entering at the cornea isn't focused on the retina when the eye is in its relaxed state then the eye is Ametropic.

The technique used in laser surgery is to lift up a tiny thin flap from the front of the cornea and then reshape or adjust its 'body' to correct or compensate for the irregularity. The flap is then put back into place and the reshaped cornea can then focus the light properly onto the retina at the back of the eye.
How long does the procedure take?
The whole procedure itself usually takes less than half an hour and the actual laser part some 20 seconds per eye.
Does the flap take long to heal?
The cornea is made up of layers and once the flap has been layed back down after the reshaping of the cornea, healing starts very quickly. The outer layer cells of the Cornea are called Epithelium, and usually within 24 to 48 hours the epithelial cells will have grown back to keep the flap securely in place. |
